Brighton and Hove Triathlon a roaring charity success

September’s inaugural Brighton and Hove Triathlon saw significant funds raised for it’s four official charities on both a local and national scale. Charity partners included; Albion in the Community, Rockinghorse, Bloodwise and Breast Cancer Care.

Albion in the Community, the official charity of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, are the largest provider of disability football opportunities in the area and also run a range of programmes focused on health, education, social inclusion and football participation. Emma Brockhurst, their Fundraising Events Executive, said of the weekend: ‘We had a great time. The staff were so very considerate to our disabled participant and really made him feel welcome – which we cannot thank them enough for. We look forward to working with them again in the future.’

Rockinghorse, Sussex’ very own children’s charity endeavouring to improve the lives of sick children through life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment, also participated and Hannah Seltzer, Events Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: "we were delighted to partner with the Brighton & Hove Triathlon as a local charity beneficiary. We had a number of participants representing Rockinghorse who raised just over £700 for sick children in Sussex. It was a really great event and we thank Team Rockinghorse and Brighton & Hove Triathlon for their wonderful support."

The Triathlon also saw national charities, Bloodwise and Breast Cancer Care taking part. A spokesperson from Bloodwise said: ‘it was a real pleasure to be involved in the first annual Brighton & Hove Triathlon and seeing so many people raising funds to beat blood cancer made it extra special. We are already looking forward to 2017’.

John Lunt, the Race Director, commented: ‘we couldn’t be more pleased to have had such a positive impact on the community. All involved should be extremely proud of their hard work and we hope that we can beat the totals next year!’

Brighton and Hove Triathlon are now seeking charities to be involved for the 2017 event.
