The Top 5 Local Season Openers to Prepare you for Race Day

February 13, 2018

Whether you’re completely new to Triathlon and are racing for the first time this year or are a seasoned pro who has already planned their summer races before Christmas, it is a good idea to get a bit of race practice in spring, before the main event in September!

Below is a round-up of all the top local races or training sessions heading your way in March and beyond.  Get in there quickly, entries are selling fast.

1.    Frosty / Frostbite Aquathlon – Tuff Fitty – 4th March 2018

This club race is a local favourite with a choice of 2 distances: 400m swim, 5k run or 800m swim, 10k run.  It is the perfect way to get used to swimming and running in race conditions.  Whilst having the comfort of a pool swim in the local leisure centre and flat run course, you’ll earn extra hardness points for facing the chilly winds along the exposed Littlehampton coast line.   Our Marketing Executive Rose is a regular at this race, make sure you wave at her as you race past!

2.    Hole Park Duathlon - Hole Park Triathlon - 25th March 2018

Nervous about jelly legs on the run?  This duathlon will give you plenty of practice moving between the run and bike.  The run takes in views of Hole Park orchards, while the MTB section (don’t worry if you don’t have a MTB bike there is a different course for roadies) passes through fords, crosses bridges and over fields with some testing sections to spark up the fun. This event is ideal for everyone from the beginner duathlete to a proven triathlete.

3.    7Oaks Tri – 7Oaks Tri Club – 29th April 2018

There are now only charity places available for this club race, which tells you something about its popularity over recent years.  A short pool swim of 400m and a slightly longer bike course of 25k means that the stronger cyclist prospers at this event.

4.    Steyning Triathlon – Raw Energy Pursuits – 6th May 2018

A little later in the year another local gem is the Steyning Tri organised Raw Energy Pursuits.  The swim is again in a pool so not too daunting for your first time, and the bike course is undulating enough to challenge series regulars and newbies alike.  A great one for a PB course as some of the distances are a little shy of a sprint distance with an 18.5k bike course.
