5 Top Tips for Fundraisers from our Charity Partner Bloodwise

Every 14 minutes in the UK, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer or a related disorder – that’s over 100 every day! Blood cancer is the UK’s third most common cancer and the most common cancer in children and young people. With your help Bloodwise can deliver guidance and support to people affected by blood cancer, and continue their invaluable research into leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma to help us beat cancer for good. So if you’re thinking of raising money for your first triathlon Bloodwise have you covered. With a £25 entry fee for all distances, advice during training and fundraising support up to race day, it’s a no-brainer. You can apply for a charity place with Bloodwise here.

We’ve put together Bloodwise’s top tips to help you make a big difference to people affected by Blood cancer.

1. Get Online Now

Creating a fundraising page online couldn’t be easier, from JustGiving or Virgin Money raising money online has never been easier.

2. Start a Blog

Personalise your fundraising page with pictures and a personal story – tell people why you’re raising money for Bloodwise. Let your friends and family know how you’re training’s going by giving them regular updates. Struggling to get out of bed for an early morning run as part of your training? Learning to swim front crawl for the first time? Tell them, it’s also a great way to keep in touch with old friends!

3. Get Creative

If this is your first Tri it might be that finishing is a big enough challenge and that’s fine, but if you’re more experienced why not set yourself the target of a new Personal Best (PB), or make things fun by asking people to predict a time with their donation, the winner could even get a small prize.

4. Contact your Local Press

Reach further than your immediate friends and family to make a bigger impact. If you have a great story to tell, why not get a press release together. This sounds more daunting than it is, all you’ll need is a few photos and a summary of your story. Send this to a local newspaper such as the Argos or a radio station such as Heart or Juice and if you’re featured you’ll not only encourage donations but also create awareness for your cause.

5. Get your Workplace Involved

Email the link to your fundraising page to all your colleagues, put up posters and consider having a cake sale or another work event to boost your total.
