Exciting news in the world of triathlon was announced at the early start of the year.
Welsh Billionaire entrepreneur Sir Michael Moritz of Crankstart Investments in the US has stumped up $2,000,000 in prize money for The Collins Cup, a new event in association with the Professional Triathlon Organisation (PTO).
The event will take place in Samorin, Slovakia on 29-30th May at the X-Bionic Sphere.
Charles Adamo, Chairman of the PTO said, “We are very pleased to have teamed up with Crankstart Investments and Michael Moritz, who share our vision in the potential of the sport and the best means by which to see it grow and thrive.”
Who gets to race?
36 of the best athletes in the world will get to race in The Collins Cup, representing three regions:
Thus, each team will comprise of 6 men and 6 women per region, racing over the middle distance, in a series of 12 match starts where 3 go off head to head.
The format will be similar to the Ryder cup in Golf.
The top four athletes (male and female) selected will be the top four ranked based upon the PTO World Rankings™
